LCV Condemns EPA Blockage of State Efforts to Curb Global Warming

Bush Administration’s Outrageous Actions Underscore Need for Next President to Commit to Fighting Global Climate Change

WASHINGTON, DC - League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued this statement regarding the EPA’s decision to deny California’s petition to cut greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles:

“EPA’s decision to deny California’s petition is just another example of the Bush Administration’s determination to undermine any attempt to combat global warming. On the same day President Bush ceremoniously signed an energy bill raising fuel efficiency standards, it is outrageous that he thwarted states’ long-standing authority to do more to clean our air and save the planet from global warming.

“This underscores the need for our next president to commit to fighting global climate change. LCV calls on presidential candidates to pledge that they will, immediately upon entering the White House, approve California’s waiver and allow states to move forward.”
