WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the political voice of the national environmental and conservation community, today announced its endorsement of state Senator Allyson Schwartz in the Democratic primary contest for Pennsylvania's 13th Congressional District.
"LCV endorsed Allyson Schwartz because we believe she will continue her strong record protecting our quality of life," said Betsy Loyless, LCV Vice President for Policy. "In particular, Allyson will be a strong advocate for cleaning up contaminated sites and creating jobs and economic growth while protecting public health in Phildelphia and Montgomery County. She understands that the environment and the economy are not mutually exclusive."
As a state senator, Allyson Schwartz supported brownfields clean up legislation and fought to ensure that public health was not compromised through the program. She also fought to create an office in the PA Department of Environmental Protection to give small businesses advice on how to comply with environmental legislation. During the Pennsylvania energy deregulation debate, Sen. Schwartz pushed to increase the use of renewables in power generation.
In the fall of 2002, Sen. Schwartz earned a 90% on PA LCV voting scorecard and received the organization's endorsement in her reelection campaign that year.
