LCV Endorses Congressman Chris Smith For Reelection

Smith boasts proven record of defending the health and safety of New Jersey

MANASQUAN, NJ - The League of Conservation Voters, which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, today announced the endorsement of Congressman Chris Smith in his re-election bid to represent New Jersey’s Fourth Congressional District.  His lifetime LCV score ranks him among the best Republicans in Congress on environmental issues.*  He has led efforts to protect New Jersey’s beaches and to clean up toxic waste sites in New Jersey and throughout the country.

"Throughout his career, Congressman Smith has demonstrated a consistently strong commitment to protecting and preserving New Jersey’s, and the nation’s, environment," LCV representative Josh McNeil said. "Congressman Smith’s leadership is an example to his colleagues and has helped preserve the beaches and natural beauty of the Garden State.”

Congressman Smith’s commitment to the environment reaches back through his long years of service.  In the 1980’s he sponsored the first bill to ever deal with the threat of global warming.  Recognizing the international challenge of climate change, he has cosponsored bipartisan legislation to increase U.S. engagement in global efforts to deal with global warming pollution.

“I have been proud to work with LCV to improve the air we breathe and the water we drink,” Congressman Smith said.   “I look forward to continued cooperation to clean up industrial waste, protect our natural heritage and leave behind a beautiful state for our children to enjoy.”
