WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the political voice of the national environmental and conservation community, today announced its endorsement of Rep. Mark Udall (D) for reelection in ColoradoÆs 2nd Congressional district. UdallÆs perfect 100 percent lifetime LCV rating and his consistent, principled leadership on clean air, clean water and open space issues make him an outstanding environmental leader in Congress.
"LCV endorsed Rep. Udall because he continues be an outspoken leader for environmental and public health protections on behalf of Colorado families," said Betsy Loyless, LCV Vice President for Policy. "He has been at the forefront in the fight for clean air, safe drinking water, protecting our natural treasures, and promoting sound, long-term energy solutions. The people of Colorado can count on Rep. Udall to ensure a clean, safe and healthy environment for future generations to enjoy."
As a member of the House Resources Committee, Rep. Udall has championed a number of environmental and energy issues. In 2003, he sponsored legislation to protect water quality and surface owner rights from the impacts of oil and gas drilling, especially coal-bed methane (CBM) gas. Instead of the deeply flawed proposals in the House Energy bill that allow polluters off the hook for groundwater contamination, Rep. UdallÆs legislation safeguards water resources for farmers and ranchers.
In addition, Rep. Udall serves as co-chair of the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, and is a recognized national leader in promoting a balanced national energy plan that includes strong investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency programs.
