WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the political voice of the national environmental and conservation community, today announced its endorsement of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D) for reelection in California³ 8th Congressional district.

"LCV endorsed Rep. Pelosi because she continues to be a champion for a clean, safe and healthy environment," said Betsy Loyless, LCV Vice President for Policy. "As House Minority Leader, Rep. Pelosi has elevated the profile of environmental and conservation issues for California and the nation, fighting hard against the Bush Administration and Majority Leadership³ anti-environmental agenda."

Rep. Pelosi has been an outspoken critic of the Bush Administration and House Republican³ flawed environmental policies. She continues to fight against the Administration's proposal to weaken mercury regulations, the cuts in funding for critical environmental programs in the 2005 budget, and the Administration's opposition to reinstating the Superfund polluter pays fee. In the past few months, Pelosi has cosponsored legislation to expand wilderness areas in the west.

Rep. Pelosi has an excellent 91% lifetime LCV score and earned a 90% score in 2003.
