10/28/08 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LCV Endorses Representative Nancy Boyda Boyda's Commitment to Clean Energy Will Help Bring Jobs to Kansas WASHINGTON - Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, announced the endorsement of Representative Nancy Boyda for Congress in the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas. “America's addiction to foreign oil is impairing our national security and weakening our economy," Boyda said. "Nothing will change as long as Washington keeps caving to the oil industry instead of doing what's right. It's an honor to work in Congress alongside the League of Conservation Voters and other organizations to strengthen America's energy future." Nancy Boyda has consistently championed important clean energy legislation. She has a strong scientific background and is a former analytical chemist and field inspector for the Environmental Protection Agency. Boyda has voted to move America towards a sustainable future by supporting efforts to increase vehicle efficiency standards to 35 mpg by 2020, to require utilities to produce 15% of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020, and to remove billions of dollars of tax breaks to Big Oil companies and divert that money to clean, renewable energy. While Boyda earned a strong 2008 LCV Score of 85%,* demonstrating her commitment to clean energy solutions, her opponent, Lynn Jenkins continues to embrace the failed energy policies of President Bush that led to today's energy crisis. Jenkins's energy proposals will only deepen America's addiction to oil and continue to hand the hard-earned tax dollars of the people of Kansas to oil companies and other countries. "Kansas has the potential be a leader in the development of renewable power," Karpinski said. "That's why Nancy Boyda is the right representative for Kansas and the kind of leader America needs in Washington."
