League of Conservation Voters Endorses Congressman Jason Altmire

WASHINGTON D.C. –Today the League of Conservation Voters, which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, endorsed Congressman Jason Altmire for re-election to Pennsylvania’s fourth congressional district.

“Representative Altmire has a solid record of environmental protection and a solid record of support for renewable energy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski.  “As a Representative from Pennsylvania, Jason is keenly aware of the severity of the energy crisis, and has fought to create clean energy jobs right here at home.”

Since taking office in 2007, Altmire has supported numerous environmental measures, including the repeal of oil subsides to create a clean energy fund.  In late 2007, Altmire voted in favor of H.R. 6, which raises the fuel efficiency standard for cars and trucks to 35 miles per gallon - the first increase in more than 30 years -and sets increased efficiency standards for buildings, homes, lights, and appliances.  When fully implemented, it will save the average American family up to $1000 a year at the pump and reduce our nation’s oil consumption by 4 million barrels per day.

In addition to raising fuel efficiency standards and investing in renewable energy, Altmire has fought climate change by voting for a resolution endorsing mandatory limits on global warming pollution and in favor of a National Intelligence Estimate on the security implications of global warming.  He has earned a solid 79% lifetime score on the LCV National Environmental Scorecard.

“Representative Altmire has been a strong ally in congress and has worked to pass meaningful, bipartisan conservation legislation,” said Karpinski.  “He shows great promise, and will continue to fight for a clean, sustainable future.”
