Obama Administration Jump-Starts the Economy with Next-Generation Batteries and Fuel Efficient Cars and Trucks

LCV calls on Senate to keep the momentum going and going and going

At events across the country, President Obama, Vice-President Biden, and Cabinet Secretaries today announced a $2.4 billion grant to develop a new generation of batteries and fuel efficient cars and trucks that will be cleaner and cheaper, create jobs and help protect the planet.  LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“President Obama’s direct investment in new clean sources of energy will jump-start America’s economy, put people to work and protect the planet from global warming pollution.  Coupled with the Obama administration’s efforts to ensure that the Senate join the House in passing comprehensive clean energy and global warming legislation this year, today’s announcement underscores yet again the President’s unwavering commitment to transforming America and creating a clean energy economy. Now it’s up to Big Oil and the Republican leaders in the Senate to stop hogging the jumper cables, to pass a clean energy jobs bill this year, and to get America’s economy moving again.”
