A Unanimous Call to Action
LCV Joins Environmental Community to Offer Advice to Team Obama
Today, the League of Conservation Voters joined nearly 30 other national environmental organizations to release a document that was delivered yesterday to President-elect Obama's transition team. The document recommends action on a variety of energy and environmental policies that are vital to the future of the country.
"We know that President-elect Obama and majorities in both houses of Congress want to take meaningful action to shore up our economy and protect our planet by creating a new energy economy,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “We look forward to working with these leaders to get things done, and this document is a road map for our future collaboration.”
The document calls for the Obama administration to embrace the best science in making its decisions. It highlights four top priority areas: clean energy and global warming legislation, the federal budget and economic recovery, making the White House a leader on clean energy and the environment, and putting the right people in the right jobs. The document also called for a moratorium on finalizing any of President Bush’s “midnight regulations” to prevent dangerous deregulation.
