Department of Agriculture
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is the government agency responsible for managing the country's 192 million acres of national forests and rangelands. They are also the largest government conservation agency, working to protect soil, water, and wildlife on the 70 percent of America's privately owned lands. Under the USDA, the Natural Resources and Environment mission area contains the Forest Service, the steward for 191 million acres of National Forests and Grasslands, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, which manages soil and water conservation on private lands.
