Department of Justice

doj logoThe US Justice Department, and more specifically, the Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD), are responsible for the enforcement of public land and environmental law. They not only bring cases against those breaking the environmental laws, but they also represent other federal agencies when challenged on environmental laws and protections. Thus, they are responsible for upholding and enforcing the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Superfund, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, which deals with hazardous waste storage, transport, and disposal.
