Interior Subcommittee

The Subcommittee on interior oversees appropriations for the Department of the Interior, excluding the Bureau of Reclamation, and some portions of the Department of Energy's budget, including Fossil Energy Research and Development, Clean Coal Technology, Energy Conservation, and Alaska Gas Pipeline Authorities. Other agencies under the Subcommittee's jurisdiction are the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the Forest Service (USDA).

Charles Taylor (R-NC 11)  chairs the Subcommittee on Interior. First elected to the NC House of Representatives in 1966, Congressman Taylor is now in his 7th term as representative for North Carolina's 11th District. Taylor has garnered a poor environmental record in his 13 years in office, scoring 0% in 2003 on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard, having cast only three pro-environment votes in the last five years.

Norman Dicks (D-WA 06) is the Ranking Democrat in the Subcommittee on Interior. After serving 27 years in Congress, Dicks scored a 95% on LCV's Scorecard in 2003.  In his tenure as a Washington State Representative, Congressman Dicks has carved out an environmental niche as a defender of public lands.
