House Energy and Commerce Committee

The House Energy & Commerce Committee has developed one of the broadest jurisdictions of all Congressional Committees.  It maintains responsibility for legislative oversight concerning public health, air quality and environmental health, and the supply and delivery of energy.  The Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality's jurisdiction includes national energy policy, nuclear energy and waste, and the Clean Air Act while the Subcommittee on Environment and Hazardous Materials oversees the Safe Drinking Water Act, Superfund and RCRA, and mining, oil, gas and coal combustion waste issues.

Leadership

 John Dingell  

John Dingell (D-MI) is the Chairman on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.  Now in his 25th term representing Michigan, he is one of the most senior members of Congress as well as an environmental leader.  Dingell's LCV Lifetime score is 71% and his score in the 109th Congress was 93%. He was named an LCV Environmental Champion in 2004.

   
Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX 06) is in his 11th term as a Congressman from Texas and the Ranking Member of the Energy & Commerce Committee.  His LCV Lifetime Score is a 7% and his score in the 109th Congress was only 3%.
