Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee

The Subcommittee on Energy & Mineral Resources governs issues relating to energy obtained by mineral sources. Its jurisdiction includes mining regulation and enforcement, reclamation of mine lands, and the environmental effects of mining. Also covered is the conservation and development of oil and gas resources on the Outer Continental Shelf, petroleum conservation on public lands, transportation of natural gas from or within Alaska, disposition of oil transported by the trans-Alaska oil pipeline, and rights of way over public lands for underground energy-related transportation. The US Geological Survey also falls under the Subcommittee's jurisdiction.

Barbara Cubin (R-WY AL) chairs the Subcommittee on Energy & Mineral Resources. She has been the At-Large Representative for Wyoming since 1994. Prior to her election to the U.S. House of Representatives, Cubin served in the Wyoming State House from 1986 to 1992 and in the Wyoming State Senate for two years. Congresswoman Cubin's voting record has been anything but environmentally friendly. Her LCV National Environmental Scorecard rating was 5% for 2003 and 5% for the 107th Congress. In her entire career as a U.S. Representative, Cubin has cast only four pro-environment votes out of a possible 126.

Ron Kind (D-WI 03) is the Ranking Democrat on the Energy & Mineral Resources Subcommittee. Congressman Kind has a strong environmental record. He received a score of 95% in 2003 on LCV's National Environmental Scorecard and 91% for the 107th Congress. He founded and Co-Chairs the bipartisan Upper Mississippi River Basin Congressional Task Force. The Task Force has been working since 1997 to promote actions that benefit the Mississippi River Basin. In 2002 Ron Kind was named an Environmental Champion by LCV.
