Leadership

James Oberstar (D-MN) is the Chairman of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.  He was first elected to Congress in 1974 to represent Minnesota's eighth district.  Now in his 16th term, Oberstar is a senior member of Congress.   With an LCV score of 77% in the 109th Congress, he has been instrumental in stopping attempts to weaken statutes such as Superfund, wetlands protection, and beach and estuary protection.

John Mica (R-FL) is the Ranking Member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. Now in his 8th term, he has a very poor record on the environment, with a score in the 109th Congress of 0%, the lowest of any member in the Florida delegation.  In addition, Mica was one of only two members of the Florida delegation of twenty-five who voted against the prohibition on drilling off the coast of Florida.  The other twenty-three members of the delegation voted in a bi-partisan fashion for the prohibition on drilling.
