Issues

After playing defense on the environment for more than a decade, the results of the 2006 elections and the pending 2008 elections have created opportunities to make real progress. In 2007, Congress took steps toward a clean energy future by passing the Energy Independence and Security Act, but there is still a lot more to be done. It's time to combat global warming, increase clean, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and protect our natural heritage and public health. Fortunately, there are many win-win solutions to our environmental and energy challenges. By harnessing American ingenuity and technological know-how, we can decrease global warming, protect the environment, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, improve our national security, create jobs and economic growth and save consumers money.

LCV is working on these and other important issues and will be making sure that our elected officials take action to protect the environment.
