Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee:
Water and Power Subcommittee
The Water and Power Subcommittee is responsible for the power marketing administrations (such as Bonneville Power and Western Area Power), hydroelectric power issues, and energy development's impact on water resources.
Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) chairs the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power. She was appointed to the Senate in December, 2002 by her father, former U.S. Senator and now Alaska Governor, Frank Murkowski. During her short time in the Senate she has thrown her support behind efforts to drill for oil in the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Sen. Murkowski has a 2003 score of 11%.
Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) is the ranking member of the Energy and Natural Resources subcommittee on Water and Power. Before his election to the Senate in 1996, Sen. Johnson served for 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. In his tenure in Washington, Senator Johnson has proven to be a consistent advocate of environmental protection. In his first term in the Senate, he helped pass legislation in support of the Conservation Reserve Program, a six-state pilot project that encourages farmers to protect sensitive midwestern wetlands. The senator is also a staunch supporter of domestically produced renewable fuels. Johnson earned an LCV score of 52% in the 108th Congress.
