LCV Action Fund Endorses Carol Shea-Porter For Congress

Feb 16, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Carol Shea-Porter for Congress (NH-1). Shea-Porter is a proven champion for the environment and protecting our air, land, water and wildlife.

“We need Carol Shea-Porter back in Congress—she is a consistent advocate for growing our clean energy economy and combating climate change,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “She is a fighter for the people of New Hampshire, working tirelessly to protect public health and clean air and water.”

“I have repeatedly called for investment in an Apollo-type program to create clean energy and jobs and to fight climate change,” said Shea-Porter. “On the Natural Resources Committee in the House, I was proud to advocate for programs that protect our natural resources. I thank the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund for their endorsement again, and I look forward to working together to protect and preserve our precious environment.”

During her previous tenure in Congress, Shea-Porter was a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), the House Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus, and the founding member of the Congressional Asthma and Allergies Caucus which fights for cleaner air for our families. She was a leading voice for combating climate change, breaking our dependence on oil, investing in clean energy, and supporting the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which curbs harmful carbon pollution and protects our health.

Shea-Porter was a member of the House Natural Resources Committee where she worked to protect New Hampshire’s and our nation’s wildlife and natural landscapes.  She led efforts to address white-nose syndrome, a disease that is devastating bat populations, and introduced legislation that would allow the federal government to designate wildlife diseases as emergencies. She also supported legislation that would protect the Atlantic Coast from offshore oil and gas drilling.

Shea-Porter earned a 96 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard during her three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.

Shea-Porter is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
