WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Dan Kildee for re-election to Congress (MI-5). Congressman Kildee has fought to protect our environment, including access to clean water and Michigan’s Great Lakes.

“Congressman Kildee is a true environmental champion, fighting every day to ensure our children and grandchildren inherit a safe and healthy planet,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “He has consistently fought to end tax breaks for Big Oil companies while working to grow our clean energy economy.”

Congressman Dan Kildee was born and raised in Flint, Michigan. He was elected to the Flint Board of Education at the age of 18, becoming one of the youngest elected officials in the nation.  From 1977 to 1985, Kildee served on the school board and as manager of the Whaley Children’s Center before becoming Genesee County Treasurer in 1985. Kildee founded the Genesee Land Bank and co-founded Community Progress, where he served as president until May 2012 when he ran for and won his congressional seat. 

Time and again, Congressman Kildee has demonstrated his commitment to the environment, including co-sponsoring legislation to end Big Oil subsidies and supporting efforts to expand America’s clean energy and energy efficiency industries. He recognizes the important role clean water plays for all Michigan families, which is why he has worked tirelessly to bring attention and aid to the residents of Flint suffering from the lead water crisis, co-sponsored legislation to combat the threats of invasive species in the Great Lakes and voted consistently to defend the Clean Water Act. Congressman Kildee also works hard to protect our natural treasures—he co-sponsored legislation to safeguard Michigan’s public lands and supports efforts to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund. 

Kildee has earned a 96 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
