LCV Action Fund Endorses Congressman Frank Pallone for Re-election

Aug 11, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Frank Pallone for re-election to Congress (NJ-06).  Over fourteen terms in Congress and as Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Pallone has helped protect critical climate change initiatives, led efforts opposing offshore drilling, and introduced a robust collection of environmental bills.

“We are thrilled to support Congressman Pallone in his re-election campaign. He’s an experienced leader who has led the fight against polluter-backed attacks on our most important climate initiatives,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “Congressman Pallone strongly supports the Clean Power Plan and has fought to protect New Jersey’s coast. He’s a key environmental ally in the House and we need Congressman Pallone’s continued leadership in Congress.”

“For over two decades, Congressman Pallone has fought for New Jersey’s environment and families. His experience and leadership are vital in the fight against polluters and the climate crisis,” said New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Executive Director Ed Potosnak. “Congressman Pallone has been instrumental in ensuring New Jersey communities are prepared to face the growing impacts of climate change.  Following the devastating impact of Superstorm Sandy, he secured funding to improve climate resiliency along the Shore and to plan for future storms. Importantly he was instrumental in preventing oil drilling off our coast.  New Jersey families and businesses can count on Congressman Pallone.”

“I am humbled and proud to receive the endorsement and support of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund, I believe that protecting our environment is not only critical to our health and safety but vital to the economic prosperity of the district,” said Congressman Pallone. “I look forward to continue working with the League on environmental policies that will protect and preserve our natural resources now and for future generations.”

As the Ranking Democrat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Pallone reliably defends our bedrock environmental laws like the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act from polluter attacks, and has supported our recent and significant progress on climate, clean water and clean air, including the Clean Power Plan—the single largest step our nation has taken to combat climate change.

In recent years, Pallone introduced several pieces of environmental legislation, including the reauthorization of the BEACH Act, which would set higher standards for water quality at public beaches, the Superfund Polluter Pays Act, which ensures that polluters pay for the clean of Superfund sites, and the Clean Water Protection Act, which would ban mountain top removal coal mining.

Pallone earned an impressive 96 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.

Pallone is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
