WASHINGTON, DC— The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Debbie Wasserman Schultz for re-election to Congress (FL-23). Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz has been a critical voice for South Florida’s environment throughout her career in public service.

“LCV Action Fund is pleased to endorse Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz for re-election to Congress. She has long recognized the threat that climate change poses to South Florida and she has been a leader in working to address this crisis,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz has time and again stood up to the Big Polluters who want to drill off Florida’s coasts, pollute our drinking water and spew unlimited amounts of carbon pollution into our air.”

“Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has a demonstrated track record when it comes to putting South Florida’s environment first,” said Florida Conservation Voters Executive Director Aliki Moncrief. “Whether fighting to protect our unique and beautiful wildlife, working to bring in critical funding for Everglades restoration, or conserving our oceans, Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz is a critical voice for our state in Congress.”

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been a long-time supporter of climate action, co-sponsoring a number of bills to address the climate crisis during her tenure in Congress. She has been an advocate for the EPA’s Clean Power Plan – the single largest step our country has ever taken to reduce the carbon pollution driving climate change – and the historic international climate agreement reached in Paris.

Throughout her career in public service, Wasserman Schultz has prioritized restoration of the Everglades and protecting Florida’s coast. She has co-sponsored legislation to stop seismic testing and drilling off the Florida coast as well as to fight ocean acidification and toxic algal blooms while protecting coral reefs and clean water. She has worked to help the victims of the Flint water crisis, supported environmental justice initiatives, and advocated for the permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund. She has also fought to protect some of America’s most iconic public lands, including the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Wasserman Schultz has earned a 92 percent lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. The non-partisan Scorecard is the nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a member’s record. For more information, visit https://scorecard.lcv.org.
