Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Dwight Evans for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 3rd District.

“Dwight Evans is a proven defender of clean air and clean water,” said League of Conservation Voters Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “He has been a leader on urban renewal and has worked tirelessly to promote green space in America’s cities, improving the quality of the environment and quality of life for the people of Pennsylvania. We are thrilled to endorse him for reelection.”

“We have counted on Representative Evans as a strong environmental ally since his days in the state legislature,” said Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Josh McNeil. “He understands that the way to grow the economy in our cities is through investments in green energy, mass transportation, and sustainable practices. I am proud to have Dwight Evans representing me in Congress.”

“Standing up for an environment with clean water, air and land that won’t sicken our communities is something I’m proud to do each and every day as an elected official,” said Congressman Dwight Evans.  “I’m truly honored to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund because we’re both fighting for sound environmental policies that keep us safe. I look forward to continuing to work with LCV in Washington, D.C. and standing up together against the gutting of the EPA and other agencies that protect our environment.”

Dwight Evans was first elected to Congress in 2016 after serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 1980 and making history by becoming the first African-American Chairman of the Appropriations Committee. He was a leader in creating the Pennsylvania Fresh Foods Financing Initiatives to help bring sustainable food into underserved communities, a program that was recognized with the EPA’s National Award for Smart Growth Achievement. Evans is committed to expanding park accessibility in America’s cities and planting more trees in metropolitan areas through programs like Pennsylvania’s TreeVitalize. In Congress, he has continued to be a strong ally for the environment, speaking out for clean water protections and earning an impressive 94% score on LCV’s 2017 National Environmental Scorecard.
