Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Mary Gay Scanlon for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 5th District.

“Mary Gay Scanlon is committed to taking swift and decisive action to protect current and future generations from the dangers of climate change,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are excited to endorse her campaign because she will fight to power our country with clean energy and to end taxpayer subsidies for the fossil fuel industry.”

“Pennsylvanians can trust Mary Gay Scanlon to stand up to polluters and the Trump administration,” said Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Josh McNeil. “She will fight for the critical protections we need to ensure that every family in Pennsylvania has clean air to breath and clean water to drink.”

“Our greatest obligation is to leave the world better for our children, and the generations that follow,” said Mary Gay Scanlon. “No child deserves to live in a world without breathable air, drinkable water, and green spaces to play in. We need to move forward, not back — and that starts by making a commitment to address the issues plaguing our environment; issues that have been ignored for far too long.”

Mary Gay Scanlon was born and raised in Watertown, New York. After law school she became a judicial clerk for the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. In 1985, Scanlon began serving as a volunteer attorney and board member with the Support Center for Child Advocates and was eventually appointed co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Commission on Children at Risk. From 2007 to 2015 she served on the Wallingford Swarthmore School Board where she worked on school sustainability efforts. In Congress, Scanlon will focus on making the U.S. a leader in climate action, including by rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, protecting the air we breathe and the water we drink, eliminating subsidies to Big Oil, and building a clean energy economy.
