Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates U.S. Senator-elect Captain Mark Kelly and victorious House candidate Representative Raúl Grijalva (AZ-03) on their wins in Arizona.

“Captain Mark Kelly prioritized climate change and climate justice throughout his Senate race and this victory is a win for Arizona communities, especially low income communities and communities of color that are disproportionately impacted by toxic air pollution,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “LCV is thrilled to work with Senator-elect Mark Kelly in Congress, and continue to fight with Representative Grijalva for a safe and healthy future for all Arizonans.”

LCV Victory Fund invested $1.7 million to defeat Martha McSally and elect Mark Kelly. The spending included two persuasion television ads that ran in Phoenix this summer. The ads highlighted McSally’s support from oil and gas polluters and her votes to gut clean air protections. LCV Victory Fund also ran a GOTV field program in Arizona including calls and texts to Arizonans encouraging them to turn out in support of Mark Kelly, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris.

Kelly highlighted his commitment to combating the climate crisis throughout his campaign, including at one of his very first interviews as a candidate for U.S. Senate on The View

In addition to Kelly and Grijalva, LCV Action Fund also endorsed U.S. House candidates Rep. Tom O’Halleran (AZ-01) and Hiral Tipirneni (AZ-06) because of their commitments to climate justice and transitioning to a clean energy future. Both O’Halleran and Tipirneni are currently leading in their races, according to the AP.

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Biden, Kelly, Tipirneni and O’Halleran campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged nearly 2,600 LCV members.

Environmental donors contributed over $930,000 to Arizona candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $43 million for the 2020 cycle.

Additionally, for the 2020 cycle Chispa AZ PAC invested nearly $4 million to elect pro-environment, pro-democracy candidates across state and local races, including a focus on electing the Solar Team at the Arizona Corporation Commission.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in Arizona, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
