Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) congratulates Senator Maggie Hassan and Representatives Chris Pappas (NH-01), and Annie Kuster (NH-02) on their wins in New Hampshire.

“Senator Maggie Hassan’s re-election is proof-positive that running against Big Oil is a successful campaign strategy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “Senator Hassan and Representatives Pappas and Kuster were integral to getting the Inflation Reduction Act over the finish line and New Hampshire families appreciate their work to lower costs, address climate pollution, and create good clean energy jobs. The real work of bill implementation lies ahead and we’re in a stronger place to do it with these champions back in Congress.”

In New Hampshire, LCV Victory Fund invested $3.2M to re-elect Sen. Maggie Hassan and defeat Don Bolduc, over $200,000 to re-elect Rep. Pappas (NH-01) and defeat Dirty Dozen member Karoline Leavitt, and close to $45,000 to re-elect Rep. Kuster and defeat Robert Burns. The New Hampshire Senate race and both New Hampshire House races were part of the Climate Voters Mobilization program with Climate Power Action. We also ran a joint TV ad program with EDF Action Votes in opposition to Bolduc and a digital ad, “Dangerously Unfit” in opposition to Karoline Leavitt in NH-01. LCVVF also opened 2 field offices, knocked on over 96,205 doors, and had 12,507 conversations with voters in New Hampshire in support of Sen. Hassan.

Climate action and the dirty influence of Big Oil were regular debate topics in New Hampshire throughout the election cycle. Senator Hassan chided her now-defeated opponent Don Bolduc in their final debate for siding with greedy Big Oil companies that are price gouging consumers at the gas pump, saying, “He stands with Big Oil to give them billions of tax breaks that cost all of you money.” Taking on Big Oil was also part of Hassan’s closing argument ad, “Whatever It Takes”.

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program turned out LCV members to volunteer for the Hassan, Pappas and Kuster campaigns as part of a nationwide field program to help elect environmental champions that engaged 8,250 total LCV members.

Environmental donors contributed nearly $775,000 to New Hampshire candidates via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a midterm record $26.9 million for the 2022 cycle.

These are just some of the climate champions who won up and down the ballot in New Hampshire, demonstrating that leaning into environmental issues is both good policy and good politics.
