Lansing, Michigan – The League of Conservation Voters and Michigan League of Conservation Voters today celebrated a compromise reached between clean energy advocates and Michigan utility companies setting a goal of 50 percent of the energy generated by utilities to come from a combination of clean energy and energy efficiency measures by 2030.

Lisa Wozniak, Michigan League of Conservation Voters Executive Director:

“This robust commitment to clean energy and energy efficiency will ensure lower costs for Michigan ratepayers while safeguarding the health of our air, land and Great Lakes. Increasing Michigan’s use of clean energy will reduce dangerous pollution in our air and water and give families and businesses access to reliable and affordable electricity in the years to come. Michigan LCV will work to make sure the utility companies follow through on this bold commitment. We also remain committed to holding Attorney General Bill Schuette, as well as our future Attorney General, accountable for protecting Michigan ratepayers and ensuring the Public Service Commission does its job.”

Gene Karpinski, League of Conservation Voters President:

“In the absence of federal leadership on clean energy in the current political climate, it’s great to see this promising news in Michigan. This is further evidence that progress on affordable clean energy for all continues to march forward.”

In March, LCV and partners in 30 states, including Michigan LCV, announced a nationwide “Clean Energy for All” campaign to advance clean energy solutions and support leaders in an effort to move the country closer to a goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2050.
