Washington, D.C. – In response to the failed nomination of Thomas Farr to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Judiciary Program Director Ben Driscoll:

“Thomas Farr devoted over thirty years to disenfranchising and intimidating voters, and his extreme partisanship has no place on the federal bench. This is a proud moment for the U.S. Senate, and we thank those senators who had the courage to stand up and reject this nomination. Farr spent his career defending efforts to suppress voter turnout in North Carolina, specifically targeting African American voters. His defeat is a win for those who support civil rights and fundamental fairness in our democracy. LCV is committed to protecting voting rights and promoting racial justice, and we will continue to oppose nominees who are unable to serve as fair and impartial judges.”

LCV sent a letter opposing Farr’s nomination to senators, noting that the vote may be included in the 2018 National Environmental Scorecard.
