Washington D.C.—In response to the final Stream Protection Rule released by the Department of the Interior, League of Conservation Voters Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote released the following statement:

“These commonsense updates are an important step forward in protecting the clean water and health of the communities surrounding coal mining operations. For too long, mining companies have gotten away with dumping toxic pollutants like mercury and arsenic into waterways, but the Stream Protection Rule will be a critical tool in finally holding them accountable. President-elect Trump claims he believes in ‘crystal clear water.’ If that’s true, he should stand up for safe, clean water for these communities and support this rule instead of bending to the wishes of big polluters who want to keep their free pass to poison mountain streams.”
