Washington, D.C. — In response to the fourth Democratic primary debate, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) issued the following statement from Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld:

“WTF CNN and The New York Times?

“Tonight’s debate was a punch in the gut to voters across the country who care deeply about the climate crisis. The latest reputable presidential primary poll found that almost 80 percent of Democratic primary voters say that a candidate’s position on climate change is very important to them, yet there wasn’t a single climate question during the fourth Democratic primary debate. Despite this glaring omission, many candidates still found a way to inject climate into the discussion.

“Climate is a top priority for voters, it’s a top priority for candidates, and it’s most definitely a top priority for LCV and our members across the country. And with devastating impacts of the climate crisis upon us, this failure by CNN, The New York Times and tonight’s debate moderators is all the more appalling. The dire circumstances demand more from the networks and people shaping the most-watched events of the Democratic primary.”
