Washington DC–Today President Obama is visiting Midway Atoll in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, the largest protected area on earth. In anticipation, LCV President Gene Karpinski released the following statement:

“This historic visit underscores President Obama’s incredible leadership in leading the world in a global effort to tackle climate change. From working on ways to limit carbon pollution in our air to permanently protecting lands and waters so our landscapes and wildlife can better adapt to the existing threats of climate change, President Obama has made America a climate leader. The recently expanded Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument is not only the largest permanently protected place on the planet, it’s also the world’s largest climate reserve and a place that will help protect wildlife and safeguard diverse ecosystems.”
