LCV Statement on Stonewall National Monument Designation

Jun 24, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Obama designated the Stonewall Inn and Christopher Park in New York City as a national monument. LCV’s Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“This is truly a historic day. Today marks the creation of the first-ever national park site to commemorate the LGBTQ rights movement. This iconic site remembers the Stonewall uprising of 1969, and symbolizes the ongoing struggle for equality. President Obama continues to be a visionary leader by looking to the next 100 years of the National Park Service to ensure that our national parks tell the story of all people in this country.”
