LCV Statement on Withdrawal of Ninth Circuit Nominee Ryan Bounds

Jul 19, 2018

Washington, D.C. – After the U.S. Senate withdrew the nomination of Ryan Bounds to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Judiciary Program Director Ben Driscoll:

“Ryan Bounds represents this administration’s attempt to pack the courts at all costs, without careful review of nominees and over the opposition of home-state senators. His failure shows that we can defeat Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who has consistently shown he will side with the wealthy and powerful over the public interest. Kavanaugh has voted to allow mining companies to pollute our waterways, tried to block protections against cross-state air pollution, and ordered the federal government to move forward storing nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. It only takes one Republican senator to block Trump’s radical anti-environment, anti-voting rights takeover of the courts. This is a fight we can win, and we must win.”

LCV sent a letter opposing the nomination to members of the Senate earlier this week, noting that the vote may be included in the 2018 National Environmental Scorecard.
