Washington D.C. – LCV Victory Fund congratulates Martin Heinrich for on his reelection to the U.S. Senate and Xochitl Torres Small for winning her campaign to represent New Mexico’s 2nd congressional district. LCV Victory Fund invested more than $170,000 supporting Torres Small’s campaign.
“Xochitl Torres Small’s win means that New Mexico’s entire congressional delegation now supports climate action and will fight to grow our renewable energy economy,” said Gene Karpinski, LCV President. “Torres Small will soon join Senator Heinrich among the most steadfast defenders of public lands in Congress. Together, they will work to grow New Mexico’s outdoor recreation economy and protect the state’s special places for future generations.”
LCV Victory Fund partnered with EDF Action and the Latino Victory Fund to run a TV ad in the 2nd congressional district. Torrest Small’s opponent, Yvette Herrell, was also named to the iconic Dirty Dozen for her anti-environmental record and support for an extreme attack on public lands.
Environmental donors contributed over $600,000 to New Mexico candidates, including more than $225,000 to Heinrich’s campaign and over $150,000 to Torres Small’s campaign, via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $21 million for the 2018 cycle.
LCV Action Fund endorsed Torres Small and Heinrich because they will help grow New Mexico’s clean energy economy and defend the state’s water and public lands. LCV Action Fund also endorsed Deb Haaland, who becomes one of the first Native American woman elected to Congress, and Ben Ray Luján.
Additionally, Conservation Voters New Mexico and related entities invested over $2 million to elect Michelle Lujan Grisham as governor and support pro-conservation candidates for land commissioner, Public Regulation Commission, and state legislature.
