Be the spark to change the world — a Chispa recap of the Youth Climate Strike

Just a week ago, youth activists around the globe mobilized communities to be a part of the largest global climate strike in history. And Chispa youth and community members were among those demanding action! Because we know that young people — especially those who are indigenous, lower-income, or people of color — are hit the hardest by the climate crisis, our presence at the strike meant that we were fighting for our people.

Many of our organizers and volunteers share similar stories of living in communities that are experiencing active environmental racism. Some live in areas that lack green spaces or access to healthy or affordable food– known as food deserts. Many live next to highways, the pollution from which increases asthma rates, and power plants that emit dangerous pollution.

Our youth have the solutions to combat the climate crisis and are fighting back. Take a look at some of the events that our Chispa youth were a part of across the country for the Youth Climate Strike:

Chispa Nevada: Youth organizer Alexa Aispuro leads a chant at the Las Vegas Rally: “What do we want? Action. When do we want it? Now. WATCH

Chispa Arizona: Chispa Arizona promotores were front and center at the Phoenix strike. Check out their amazing signs

We’ll be at the next climate strike and hope you will too!
