In June, over 5 million people across the United States and 10 other countries joined the first No Kings event to peacefully protest President Trump’s power-hungry, corrupt administration. This weekend, we’re taking to the streets again for a bigger and better No Kings nonviolent protest on October 18. Here are the five key things to know about this nationwide peaceful protest, what it stands for, and how to join a rally near you.
No Kings is a peaceful movement with more than 2,500 events nationwide to protest the Trump administration’s corruption and blatant disregard for the law and our most fundamental rights. As Trump incites fear and advances policies that harm and divide us, No Kings is an opportunity to come together in peaceful resistance.
Organized by a broad coalition (including LCV!), No Kings reflects the diversity of the country. From small towns to big cities, each event is organized by local leaders, activists, and community members who want to make a difference. And as hard as it is for Trump to believe, no one is getting paid to protest – this is a movement of the people.
Now more than ever, we could all use some joy. No Kings on October 18 will bring us together to have fun, build community, and celebrate the values of our democracy – including peaceful protest and speaking up for what is right. By attending a No Kings event, you can join the majority of Americans who oppose the Trump administration’s actions in a historic day of community and resistance.
Over and over, President Trump has defied courts, disregarded the Constitution, and acted like a wanna-be king. He’s sent the military into our cities. He’s ignored court orders. And Republicans in Congress are following suit – defying the courts, cutting vital programs, and giving handouts to billionaires. This isn’t just corruption, it’s cruelty.
The Trump administration’s actions are eroding democracy and making our lives riskier and costlier. Anyone who wants clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, climate action, and a free and fair democracy is negatively impacted by this administration’s actions. And the impacts are worst for the very people most harmed by climate change, including immigrants, people of color, people with lower income, and people in the LGBTQ community. In this defining moment, we have the opportunity to remind everyone that power belongs to the people. It is more important than ever to raise our voices, especially for those who don’t feel safe doing so.
There are over 2,500 protests taking place across the country!
Go to lcv.org/nokings to find an event near you. You can also explore the website for helpful resources like virtual safety trainings and messaging toolkits to spread the No Kings message.
By raising our voices, coming together, and demanding change, we can show elected officials, the media, and the world that America does not do kings. We’re not ruled, we’re represented.
No Kings is more than just a single protest. It’s about building a long-term movement strong enough to protect our freedoms, defend our democracy, and outlast any one politician. Here are three more things you can do right now to keep this movement going strong:
Need some inspiration for your protest sign? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Bringing a sign can be a great way to show support. Whether you’re feeling patriotic, creative, or classic, there’s something for everyone.
Bonus: We will be wearing Resistance Yellow to the No Kings protest on October 18! Pro-democracy movements around the world have used yellow as a symbol of optimism and peaceful resistance.
Show that we’re the real patriots defending our nation and our democracy with classic USA symbols in your design like the flag, bald eagles, the Statue of Liberty, and of course lots of red, white and blue. Break out your flags from July 4th too!
