Tell Secretary Zinke to stop playing games with our public lands
Talking points:
- If Secretary Zinke is truly listening to the public, then he should listen to the 2.7 million comments supporting national monuments and end a bogus review that should have never begun.
- Our national monuments protect culturally and historically significant places, and several of our popular national parks like the Grand Canyon and Acadia National Parks were first protected as national monuments. An attack on one is an attack on them all.
- The public lands, waters, and wildlife under threat by Secretary Zinke’s review must remain protected so that future generations can enjoy them. Once these special places and wildlife are gone, they are lost forever.
- The Antiquities Act – signed by President Teddy Roosevelt and used by both Democratic and Republican presidents alike – has protected national monuments for generations. Secretary Zinke is attacking this conservation legacy by playing games with our monuments.
- Monument designations generate huge amounts of economic activity – boosting business, recreation, and employment for local communities. Secretary Zinke’s review puts these economic benefits at risk.
