Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Xochitl Torres Small for Congress in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District.
“We are thrilled to endorse Xochitl Torres Small for Congress because she is committed to fighting for New Mexico’s water and public lands,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “She knows that climate change threatens Southern New Mexico’s way of life and will be a champion for a clean energy future.”
“Xochitl is a tremendous candidate who will work hard to protect New Mexico’s air, land and water,” said Conservation Voters New Mexico Political & Legislative Director Ben Shelton. “As a water attorney and a native New Mexican, she is uniquely positioned to bring a voice of authentic expertise that would be a great benefit to Congress. Southern New Mexico is unique, and it needs a unique voice in Washington D.C.”
“I am honored to have the support of LCV Action Fund, which is committed to electing candidates who prioritize conservation and protecting our public lands,” said Xochitl Torres Small. “In New Mexico, our shared lands are part of what makes this place home and defines who we are. In Congress, I will continue to fight to protect our public lands and our way of life.”
Xochitl Torres Small was raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After college, she worked as a field representative in Senator Tom Udall’s southern New Mexico regional office and helped to organize New Mexico’s first statewide water conference to plan for future water needs. She then attended law school, clerked for a federal judge and joined the law firm of Kemp Smith where she specializes in water rights issues. In Congress Torres Small will prioritize water conservation and efforts to combat climate change.
