Chris Pappas is a longtime public servant who has fought tirelessly for New Hampshire’s access to a clean energy economy and clean air and water as a member of the U.S. House.

After graduating from Harvard, Pappas helped run his family’s 108-year-old local restaurant, served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, and held a seat on the state’s Executive Council, where he directed state investments into a variety of renewable energy projects. In 2018, Pappas was elected to the United States House of Representatives. He has been a champion for protecting New Hampshire’s waterways, including fighting carcinogenic forever chemicals by establishing strict limits on PFAS discharge and securing funding for cleanup efforts. Pappas has also fought against the Trump administration’s illegal cancellations of clean energy projects, unlawful wars of choice, and other decisions from the administration that are raising energy costs at home and at the pump. Specifically, he introduced multiple bills to restore energy bill relief for low-income and military families.

As a senator, Pappas will continue to fight for clean energy initiatives, advocate for innovative climate solutions, and invest in resilient infrastructure to secure a cleaner, safer, and more affordable future for all Americans. As a representative, he earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard. Pappas is the first openly LGBTQ+ man to be elected to the Senate.

Pappas joins the U.S. Senate to fill the seat of retiring Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who earned a 95% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

“New Hampshire’s environment from the White Mountains to the Seacoast is critical to our way of life and our economy. I’ll continue to prioritize environmental sustainability, stand up to corporate polluters, and work to keep our communities safe and healthy for generations to come.” – LCVAF Press Release
