LCV Action Fund Endorses Emily Cain for Congress

Jan 14, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Emily Cain for Congress (ME-2). Cain supports action on climate change and advocates for a transition to a clean energy economy that will create jobs in Maine and across the country.

“Emily Cain’s strong record in Maine proves that she understands the importance of protecting our planet for future generations to enjoy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “She recognizes our moral and economic imperative to address climate change and safeguard public health. In Congress, Cain will stand up to the big polluters and fight for clean air and water as well as protecting Maine’s incredible natural resources.”

“Emily Cain has been a staunch advocate for our environment and the health of our families, and she will continue this same leadership in Congress,” said Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) Executive Director Maureen Drouin. “In the state legislature, Cain worked to grow Maine’s clean energy economy, expand our wind and solar sectors, and conserve our wildlife, rivers and forests.”

“For Maine’s economy to grow and thrive, we need a healthy environment,” said Cain. “Clean air and water are critical to keeping our farms and fisheries healthy and bringing tourism and dollars to Maine. I’m proud to have the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund because they are leading the way in making sure the Maine we love and depend on for our livelihoods will be here for generations to come.”

Cain proved to be a strong environmental advocate in the state legislature where she earned a 90 percent lifetime score on MCV’s Environmental Scorecard. In 2013, she helped ensure passage of a bill that protected children’s health by requiring disclosure of BPA in products, and she will continue to highlight the issue of toxic chemicals in everyday products. Cain supported legislation to limit dangerous carbon pollution from new coal power plants. As Democratic Minority Leader in the Maine House of Representatives, she was a staunch advocate for investments in renewable energy and infrastructure. She was also a proponent for weatherization programs to make homes more energy efficient and save families money. In Congress, Cain will continue to champion climate action and moving to a clean energy economy.

Cain is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
