Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Steven Horsford for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Nevada’s 4th District. 

“Representative Steven Horsford is a tireless champion for environmental justice, public lands and clean energy,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “We are proud to support him for re-election because we know he will continue to fight for action on the climate crisis while addressing the disparities faced by urban and rural communities in Nevada and across the country.”

Representative Steven Horsford was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. A former state senator, in 2008, he became the state Senate Minority Leader and after Democrats regained control of the Nevada state Senate in the 2008 election, he became both the youngest Senate Majority Leader in Nevada history as well as the first African American to hold that position. In the state Senate, Horsford authored the Clean Energy Jobs Initiative, which funded training and jobs in renewable energy and energy efficiency for Nevadans and led the Senate in passing a bill to increase Nevada’s renewable energy standard to 25 percent by 2025. Horsford was elected to the U.S. House in 2012, but was defeated for re-election in 2014. In Congress, Horsford advocated for clean energy tax incentives and served as a member of the Committee on Natural Resources, where he introduced and co-sponsored several bills to expand public land designations in Nevada. He led on the Nevada Lands Bill, which expanded conservation and created jobs across the state. He helped secure the 48,000-acres Wovoka Wilderness Area designation, establish the Tule Spring National Monument, and build support for protections for Gold Butte. In this past Congress, Horsford has helped sponsor or co-sponsor the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Act of 2019, Promoting Sustainable Energy Projects for Tribal Communities Act of 2019, Recovering America’s Wildlife Act of 2019, and the 100% Clean Economy Act of 2019.
