House Representative

Hilda
Solis

CA-38
D

Hilda Solis is a daughter of farmworkers and has championed climate and environmental justice throughout her career in public service.

After earning her Master’s in Public Administration, Solis worked across administrations at the White House Office of Hispanic Affairs and the Office of Management and Budget. In California, she was elected to the state Assembly and then the state Senate, where she drew on her childhood experiences by the Puente Hills Landfill and prioritized environmental justice, requiring the California EPA to address environmental inequities and authoring the state’s innovative Green Jobs Act — earning her the prestigious John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. She was then elected to the U.S. House, where she served on the Energy Independence and Global Warming select committee and secured expanded public lands protections. Solis was then confirmed as the U.S. secretary of Labor in the Obama administration and continued to support a green economy transition. She returned to California, winning election as an LA County supervisor and procuring cleanup funds for lead battery recycling contamination.

As a representative, Solis will continue to champion environmental justice, support communities impacted by climate impacts, and help create good-paying, clean energy jobs. During her previous terms in Congress, Solis earned a 97% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

Solis rejoins the U.S. House after winning election in California’s newly-redrawn open 38th Congressional District, a seat formerly held by Representative Linda Sanchez, who earned a 95% lifetime score on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.

“Climate change and safeguarding against the impacts of environmental health risks have been guiding principles throughout my career in elected office. As Trump calls climate change a hoax and reverses decades of policies, I believe we have an obligation to fight.” – LCVAF Questionnaire.
