NEW POLLING: Majority of Black and Latino Voters Want Candidates to Address Climate Change, Pollution and Energy Costs

Oct 21, 2026

Key findings from fall 2026 poll among Black and Latino registered voters in battleground states

With the midterm elections two weeks away, a new poll of Black and Latino voters in seven battleground states finds that overwhelming majorities want candidates to address climate change, pollution and energy costs, even though those issues aren’t necessarily what voters name first when deciding who to support.

The survey, conducted by HIT Strategies for the Climate Equity Action Fund and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), found that 72% of respondents selected the cost of living as one of their top three voting issues, followed by access to healthcare (42%) and discrimination (30%).

The findings suggest that Black and Latino voters overwhelmingly want candidates to address climate change. With household costs and health taking priority, the poll underscores the importance of talking about climate policy in terms of what matters most to voters, including affordable energy, clean air and safe drinking water.
