LCV Action Fund Endorses Katie McGinty for U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania

Jan 28, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC—The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, proudly announced its endorsement of Katie McGinty for U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania today. McGinty has been a longtime champion for the environment and public health and has worked tirelessly to combat climate change and grow a clean energy economy.

“For more than 25 years, Katie McGinty has dedicated herself to protecting our planet for our children and grandchildren, from her work with then-Senator Al Gore to reauthorize the Clean Air Act to helping make Pennsylvania a leader in solar and wind energy,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.  “She is exactly the kind of leader we need in the U.S. Senate at this crucial moment in the fight against climate change.”

“Katie McGinty brings a lifetime of expertise and commitment to the fight to protect Pennsylvania,” said Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Josh McNeil.  “As chief of staff to Governor Wolf, she helped stop new drilling in state parks and forests, fought to increase investments in clean energy, and supported important new efforts to protect Pennsylvanians from methane leaks.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the LCV Action Fund and have a partner committed to addressing our environmental future,” said McGinty. “There is no question that climate change presents a serious global threat to our health, economic well-being and national security, and it is time to move towards a clean energy economy.  In the Senate, I will lead the way to a healthier and safer environment and work to pass common-sense climate protections with investments in energy efficiency and clean energy.”

McGinty was the first woman to chair the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) during President Bill Clinton’s administration and the first woman to lead the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) during Governor Ed Rendell’s administration.  While at CEQ, McGinty helped achieve some of the Clinton Administration’s top environmental accomplishments, and under her leadership at DEP, attracted clean energy companies to Pennsylvania and spearheaded efforts to cut toxic pollution like mercury and tailpipe emissions.

On the campaign trail and in the Senate, McGinty will build on her decades of environmental leadership. She will make combating climate change a top priority by supporting common-sense policies to cut carbon pollution, grow our clean energy economy and invest in energy efficiency.

McGinty is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions for federal office.
