LCV Action Fund, Sierra Club Endorse Russ Feingold for U.S. Senate

Feb 10, 2016

Washington DC– Today the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and the Sierra Club endorsed Russ Feingold for U.S. Senate. Citing Russ’s commitment to combatting climate change, support for investment in clean energy, and Russ’s strong record as an environmentalist, the leading environmental organizations lent their official support to Russ’s candidacy.

“We need a leader like Russ Feingold back in the Senate,” said LCV Action Fund SVP of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a senator, he worked tirelessly to protect our treasured natural resources, combat climate change by expanding clean energy and safeguard the water we drink. Russ will fight for what’s best for Wisconsin families, for our planet, and for our health for generations to come.

“Russ Feingold is the Sierra Club’s choice for Senate because we know he will work to protect our environment for Wisconsin families,” Said Bill Davis, Chapter Director of the Sierra Club at the John Muir Chapter. “I have known and worked with Russ for thirty years and have seen firsthand his commitment to the environment.  Russ Feingold’s commitment to conservation and fighting climate change stands in stark contrast to Ron Johnson’s appalling voting record for big polluters.  The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Russ Feingold and we will work hard for his election to the Senate.”

“I’m grateful to have the support of LCV, the Sierra Club, and their members,” said Russ.  “Wisconsin cannot afford more denial or inaction on climate change, and Wisconsinites cannot afford to live in cities where access to safe, clean drinking water is jeopardized.   Wisconsin’s economic future and tradition of conservation depends on our ability to invest in clean energy, improve our crumbling infrastructure, and finally end tax breaks and loopholes for the oil industry.

Unlike Russ, who agrees with the overwhelming majority of scientists who say that human activity has contributed to climate change, Sen. Ron Johnson has said that climate change is “lunacy,” and has supported tax breaks for big oil at the expense of working and middle class Wisconsinites.
