Field campaign in Nevada highlights differences between Catherine Cortez Masto and Rep. Joe Heck

Las Vegas, NV – Today, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) launched their first field effort in support of a Senate candidate for the 2016 cycle. The initial persuasion canvass campaign, which LCV is investing over quarter million dollars in, will be in support of Catherine Cortez Masto and will focus on voters in the greater Las Vegas area.

The campaign will highlight the stark differences between Catherine Cortez Masto, who fights for the people of Nevada, with Rep. Joe Heck’s record of putting big polluters interests’ first, leading him to a miserable 8 percent LCV lifetime score in Congress.

“We are hitting the ground early to get the message out to Nevada voters that they have a clear choice between Catherine Cortez Masto, an environmental champion, and Joe Heck, an ally of big polluters,” said LCV National Campaigns Director Clay Schroers. “As an advocate for Nevadans, and a supporter of clean energy jobs and protecting our public lands, Catherine Cortez Masto has shown she is the best choice for Nevada’s families, while Rep. Joe Heck is willing to put polluters’ profits first. There’s already been a great deal of attention focused on the presidential race so we are starting to pound the pavement now so that Nevada voters have ample opportunity to learn about their choices in the Senate race.”

This is LCV’s first Senate Independent Expenditure campaign of 2016. In the presidential race LCV and LCV Victory Fund have so far engaged in digital advertising and direct mail campaigns to support Hillary Clinton in early primary states, including Nevada. 

In 2014, LCV, LCV Victory Fund, and state LCVs invested a record total of over $30 million — by far the most that LCV had ever spent. Federal races accounted for over $19 million of total spending, while LCV and state LCVs combined to spend over $10 million on state elections.
