LCV Statement on Hillary Clinton’s Environmental Justice Plan

Apr 13, 2016

Washington, D.C. – Today, Hillary Clinton released her plan to fight for environmental and climate justice. In response, LCV president Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“Hillary Clinton’s environmental justice plan says everything about why her vision for a cleaner, safer and more just world is exactly what we need in our next President. Smart, realistic policies that will improve the health and wellbeing of our families have become a hallmark of Hillary’s candidacy. Her plan to fight for environmental and climate justice builds on the approach she took on the crisis in Flint – when she spoke to residents, convened experts, and crafted tough proposals to address the needs of Flint residents today and into the future. The plan she unveiled today is a thorough, well-developed approach to addressing the persistent inequalities that force low income and communities of color to unfairly shoulder the burden of extreme weather and polluted water and air.

“In stark contrast, neither of the leading Republican candidates – Donald Trump or Ted Cruz – have shown any willingness to address the issues of climate and environmental protection. Both have vowed to nullify the EPA’s ability to protect our clean air and drinking water, and deny the irrefutable science of climate change, while resolving policy disputes in crude insults and cheap shots. Hillary is the only candidate in this race with the policies, temperament and experience to be the next president of the United States – and her proposal today is further proof.”
