WASHINGTON, DCGiveGreen and GiveGreen in the States continue breaking records by raising or contributing a historic $8 million for pro-environment federal and state candidates in the 2015-2016 election cycle. During the 2014 election cycle, GiveGreen raised or contributed more than $5.8 million to pro-environment candidates, up from $2 million in the 2012 cycle

To date, GiveGreen has raised record-breaking totals for several candidates, including:

• Catherine Cortez Masto (NV) over $569,000—the largest amount ever raised for a candidate on GiveGreen

• Katie McGinty (PA) over $523,000

• Russ Feingold (WI) over $423,000

In fact, we have raised at least $100,000 for 12 candidates, more than ever before.

This comes after last month’s record breaking 48-hour online fundraising campaign, #GreenStorm, over $537,000 was raised for federal candidates.

LCV Action Fund’s federal GiveGreen bundling program, which is supported by the NRDC Action Fund PAC, helps to raise money for pro-environment candidates at the federal level while GiveGreen in the States is a project of LCV Political Engagement Fund and NextGen Climate to help support pro-environment candidates at the state level.

Last year, GiveGreen in the States focused on Virginia candidates, and this year, the program has expanded to include state-level candidates including gubernatorial candidates Roy Cooper (NC) and Jay Inslee (WA) and attorney general candidates Josh Stein (NC) and Josh Shapiro (PA) as well as state legislative candidates in states such as Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.

“It is empowering to know that my GiveGreen donation is aggregated with those from other environmentalists. When you see how the numbers add up you can see why politicians are taking notice of the financial support our community provides. We need all environmentalists to support candidates through GiveGreen,” said Tom Campion, GiveGreen donor.

“When billionaire-backed third party groups were pouring millions of dollars to defeat me, GiveGreen donations leveled the playing field and ensured that we had what we needed to run a successful campaign. I couldn’t have won my race without this support. It was great to know that the environmental community was in my corner as much as I am in theirs,” said Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico.

“Hillary Clinton and the candidates supported by GiveGreen are all that stand between Donald Trump and his reckless plans to keep America addicted to the dirty fuels of the past. I’m grateful environmental donors stepped up in unprecedented numbers this year to fight for a different vision – a clean energy future and a healthier planet,” said Rhea Suh, president of the NRDC Action Fund PAC.

“This is a testament to the growing power and coordination of the environmental community. More and more savvy donors are joining forces to make their voices heard and ensure we can protect our planet for our children and grandchildren by helping to elect candidates who care deeply about clean air, water and open spaces. By coming together, we can make our environmental priorities a reality,” said Gene Karpinski, president of LCV Action Fund.

“We are proud to work with environmental organizations and donors to support pro-environment candidates in crucial races this cycle who will protect our air and water and have the courage to stand up to the oil and gas lobby. With just a week until election day, everyone is pitching in to make sure we elect candidates who will move our nation forward on climate change and clean energy,” said Jenna Narayanan Vice President of Development of NextGen Climate.

The GiveGreen total of over $8 million includes all contributions raised or contributed in 2015-2016 for federal candidates, as well as contributions raised and contributed through GiveGreen in the States and by state LCV partners to nonfederal candidates.
