Washington D.C. – LCV Action Fund congratulates endorsed candidate, Ed Markey on his win in the Democratic primary election for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts tonight.

“Congratulations to Senator Ed Markey on his win tonight and onward to another victory in November to keep this climate and environmental justice champion in the Senate,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “The stakes have never been higher, and we’ve never needed Senator Markey’s tireless leadership more. We are thrilled voters in Massachusetts agreed tonight.”

“Senator Ed Markey’s primary win is a testament to how much voters value protecting our environment and investing in clean energy,” said Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund Executive Director Clare Kelly. “Markey has a track record of bold environmental policy, and standing up to climate deniers. Over the years, no one has done more for climate and energy policy than Senator Markey.”

LCV mobilized its members to volunteer with Senator Markey’s campaign and environmental donors contributed over $235,000 to Markey’s campaign via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Action Fund, NextGen America and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — has already raised a record $31.9 million for the 2020 cycle.

LCV Action Fund endorsed Markey because of his longtime leadership on addressing the climate crisis and fighting for a just and equitable transition to a clean energy future.
