Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, announced its endorsement of Adam Smith for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Washington’s 9th Congressional District. 

“Representative Adam Smith is a strong advocate for climate action and environmental justice in Congress,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a leading voice in calling for the climate crisis to be recognized as a national security threat and the strengthening of our air quality standards to protect communities most impacted by the climate crisis, we are thrilled to support him for re-election.”

Representative Adam Smith was elected to Congress in 1996. As Chair of the House Armed Services Committee, he has helped lead the charge to have climate change recognized as a national security threat. He is a member of the United for Climate and Environmental Justice Task Force and cosponsored the BREATHE Act, which improves air quality standards under the Clean Air Act, among numerous other climate and environmental-related bills. Prior to his time in Congress, he served as a state senator in Washington from 1991 until he was elected to Congress. Representative Smith was 25 years old and the youngest State Senator in the country. While in the State Senate, Adam served on the Education and Law and Justice Committees, and served as Chair of the Law and Justice Committee.
