Washington, D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will support sound environmental policies, announced today its endorsement of Ayanna Pressley for Congress in Massachusetts’ 7th Congressional District.

“Ayanna Pressley is committed to environmental justice and building healthy communities in her district and across the country,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “She knows that now is the time for climate action and has an impressive record of accomplishments on the Boston City Council. We need her to bring her drive for change to Washington so she can help us build America’s clean energy future.”

“Ayanna Pressley will be a strong voice for environmental justice and health equity in Washington DC,” said Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien. “She will be a powerful advocate for low income and communities of color that suffer disproportionately from the adverse impacts of climate change and she will lead efforts to build a clean energy future. We look forward to working with her to improve and protect our Commonwealth’s and country’s environment.”

“Environmental issues are inextricably linked to so many of the challenges facing our communities, from education to public health to economic opportunity,” said Ayanna Pressley. “That’s why I have been intentional on the Boston City Council about working with community to improve the environment for every resident of Boston. Organizations like the League of Conservation Voters are doing critical work to keep environmental issues at the forefront of the public conversation and drive national policymaking. I am honored to receive LCV Action Fund’s endorsement and look forward to working with them in Congress.”

Ayanna Pressley won her first Boston City Council race in 2009 and subsequently placed first in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017 among the at-large members of the city council. She is the first woman of color elected to the council in the city’s history. While serving on the Boston City Council Pressley supported the implementation of Community Choice Electricity, an initiative that would allow the City of Boston to choose a renewable energy provider for its municipal power generation. She also made food policy a priority, working to ensure greater access to healthy and sustainable food. In Congress she will focus on taking action to address the climate crisis and improving environmental protections to ensure access to clean air, clean water, and green space for all.
